Dartington Hall Trust
About us
The Dartington Hall Trust is a pioneering charity − a place of experiment, enterprise, and education where the arts, social justice and sustainability come together.
Based near Totnes in South Devon, The Trust occupies a 1200 acre estate which was bought in the 1920s by visionaries Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst as the base for an experiment in rural regeneration. The 21st Century Dartington remains true to the ethos of the Elmhirsts. We are committed, like them, to solving the problems of our time through experimentation, collaboration and new ideas.
The world needs places like Dartington where social change can happen and innovative ideas can be incubated. To achieve our ambitious aims, we are seeking the support and involvement of like-minded individuals who recognise Dartington as a rare and valuable resource and who want to invest in our future. With your help, we will realise our vision and become self-sustaining by 2015.
What we’re raising funds for
The project pages on the left hand side give details about the projects we are fundraising for which cover three distinct areas:
Arts - 'Space' a new creative and performing arts centre, the first of its kind in the South West
Sustainability - Schumacher College, a new eco-centre and campus - a leader in environmental education in the South West
Social Justice - The Abundant Life project, a new form of community for older people, will reinvigorate the Foxhole buildings on the Dartington estate.
Our target
Our total campaign goal is £15 million and we want to raise 10% of that goal through the Allia bond as follows:
- £500,000 for Space, a new creative and performing arts centre, the first of its kind in the South West
- £500,000 towards the capital investment in a new eco-centre and campus for Schumacher College, a leader in environmental education in the South West
- £500,000 towards the Abundant Life Project, a new model for community living for those 55 and older.
