Friends of the Family Winchester Limited

About us

“Friends of the Family Winchester” is a local charity that provides guidance and support to vulnerable families with children in the Winchester area.  We offer individual and group activities to help develop parenting skills and relations between parents and children.

Established for 14 years, Friends of the Family has three employees and the help of a group of dedicated volunteers. Support is focussed around children in two age groups: for the under 5s we offer parents and children twice weekly meetings at 16 Colebrook Street and for 5-13s we offer support in the home using our volunteers.

What we do

Over the years, Friends of the Family has assisted more than 220 families, providing guidance and support. We believe in the value of early intervention to find solutions to pressures in the home and make lasting improvements to the lives of children.

We are able to draw upon input from an experienced child psychiatrist on areas of improvement and/or concern. Our volunteers undergo training and once engaged with families will record each visit and discuss shared experiences and problem solving in regular feedback meetings.

What we’re raising funds for

We rely on gifts and local grants and fundraising events organised by the Trustees. We are seeking to establish greater visibility to our funding.  The charity benefits from rent-free premises at the Friends Meeting House and minimal overhead so monies which are raised can be applied directly to front-line services to support our children and their families.
