About Allia
Allia is a charitable social investment intermediary that creates investment vehicles to raise finance for organisations delivering social impact.
Allia started in 1999 under the name Citylife to raise grant funding for employment initiatives through local campaigns in communities around the UK. We developed the charitable bond mechanism as a way of enabling individuals and companies to invest their capital to release upfront funding while receiving their investment back in full on maturity of the bond.
After ten years of campaigning and raising £10m of investment, we decided to make a strategic shift to scale up the level of investment and create vehicles that would finance a wider range of social ventures. This repositioning resulted in the rebranding of the organisation as Allia in 2010 and the launch of a new online charitable bond fundraising platform which raised a further £8m of investment in its first year. Allia is now also developing further social investment products to support the delivery of social outcomes.
