Sustrans
About us
Sustrans makes smarter travel choices possible, desirable and inevitable. We’re a leading UK charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day.
Our vision is a world in which people can choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and our environment.
What we do
We work with families, communities, policy-makers and partner organisations so that people are able to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, with better places and spaces to move through and live in.
It’s time we all began making smarter travel choices. Make your move and support Sustrans today www.sustrans.org.uk
What we’re raising funds for
We believe that every child should have the right to a safe route to school, and we’re working to make this a reality. It is calculated that 1 in 5 cars on our roads in the morning are taking children to school – a journey that is often less than a few miles (Ref 1). When Sustrans surveyed 20,000 pupils 50% told us that they wanted to cycle to school, but only 3% were (Ref 2).
With your support we will work in communities throughout the UK to create new traffic-free walking and cycling networks around schools, to make safer crossings of busy roads, and to give children the skills and confidence to walk and cycle to school, and parents the peace of mind to let them. The more our children cycle and walk the school run, the healthier, happier and more confident they'll be, to the benefit of us all.

Our target
Our initial fundraising target is £500,000 through the Allia charitable bond service. We want to enable an additional 100,000 children to walk and cycle to school to the benefit of their health, our communities and environment.
